The Southern Bali

The southern Bali is defined to be a flat zone with large white-sand beaches and a lot of heavy wind. Perfect for many surfers that came year by year to enjoy it. However there also are some places of interest to have a look at.

Canggu

This is a southwest city close to Denpasar. We found so many dificulties to get there from Kuta, where we got our bikes, becouse of the crazzy Bali traffic I have already told you many times. It is not so full of toursits as the capital, however there are quite a lot. When you go around the streets at this area you will find many people riding around with a special bikes that carry their surf table. It is quite revealing of the main activity here.

There are plenty of nice hotels at Canggu, from the backpackers hostels with shared rooms, the guesthouses, and the large vilas and resorts. There is a hotel for everyone. We chose to stay at Bali Reef house Surf Co as the owners are spanish and it was recomended by some friend.

We had planed to try surfing here. Take the first leson and see if standing in the surf table really is so difficult. However, we woke up pretty late and took to many time visiting the area. We also found our frinds from Nusa Penida! Who we spend some time wandering around with. I would like to come back to Bali, there are a lot of things I couldn't do and this is one of them.

The Pura Tanah Lot was build during the 16th century. It is devoted to the water guardian spirits and it is believed to be watched by the dangerous marine snakes that live under the surface. The building set is incredibly perfect. When it is hide tide, the rock at wich is builded the temple can be almost filled by the water. However, for some ours a dat it is posible to cros until the temple by walking.

At the surroundings can be find other temples like Pura Batu Bolong, wich is located on a mount in the see comunicated to the shore by a natural bridge. The temple is specially beautiful at the sunset when the light becomes golden. Moreover at 19th, the fire dance show known as kechak, begins at the edge.

After spenging almost all the morning here we came back to Canggu to have lunch. Taking all our belongins with us we headed to the southern Bali to spend the last day of our journey.

Uluwatu

The Southern Bale is a slight less crowded than the Capital. However we took our time to cross it in orther to get there. There are some fields and many large white-sand beaches. As always, here at Bali, there are plenty of nice hotels. We chosed the Lumbung Wisesa Uluwatu. The small wooden bungalows, wich are entirely equipped, are surrounded by a large garden and an incredible big green area. Perfect for a relaxing last night.

The Pura Uluwatu was build on the 11th century and is devoted to the Dewi Danu goddes. It is said to be one of their petrified ships that protects the island from the bad spirits. It is also called as the Cliff temple, becouse of its spectacular location with the rock face 70 meters over the sea level.

The temple is specially beautiful at the sunset when the light becomes golden. Moreover at 19th, the fire dance show known as kechak, begins at the edge. The price is 100.000 IDR. Our first disapointment was that the place was certanly over crowded and the people were still coming inside. The second was that the exhibition were quite simple and at the end of it you could clearly peek to be almost for tourists fun and money. However the emplacement and the beautiful sunset makes it really better.

We had planned a beach route for the next and the last morning of our journey.
