Manggarai Barat regency

Actualizado: 13 oct 2019

After leaving Manggarai regency we stopped at Lembor to have lunch and enjoy the big ricefields of both sides of the road. Our first plan was to discover the Nangalili beach or the Wulang waterfall and canyon. However, as we took too much time at Manggarai and we were too tired, we decided to go straight to Labuan Bajo, drink a beer and enjoy the sunset. In Labuan Bajo we did an awesome day of diving at the north Komodo and, finally, we took a 3 days 2 nights boat at Komodo National Park.

Lembor

After spending the morning at Manggarai regency, we arrived at Lembor, a half-way point towards Labuan Bajo. This is a very small town where we had lunch in a nice paddar restaurant and then we took back our trip. From the car, we could see amazing views of the ricefields and the mountains.

Before getting to Labuan Bajo we planned a short visit to Nangalili beach or Cunca Wulang waterfall and canyon. It is said that Nangalili beach is one of the best beaches of Flores, however, on the next few days, we were going to be on a boat trip around the islands of Komodo National Park. For this reason, we chosed to see the Cunca Wulang waterfall and canyon.

We were driving that direction when we realized we were very tired of the whole trip. Apparently to have a walk at Cunca Wulang you have to pay for a guide (in our case for 4 persons 360.000 rp). There is a downhill of at least 30min to get to the waterfall and a 35min uphill to get back. Considering all this we decided to go straight to Labuan Bajo to rest a little bit.

Labuan Bajo

Labuan Bajo is the most famous city among Flores. The vast majority of the tourism that go to this island spend all the days at this city or the surroundings. Due to this, the city is the most crowded and expensive. There are plenty of hotels and western restaurants but most of them are high-priced.

We arrived at Labuan Bajo at the afternoon, just in time to see the sunset at "Paradise bar" while drinking a beer. The views of the Komodo national park from this bar are amazing.

I highly recommend a restaurant called "warung mama". It is a small local restaurant where you can choose the rice and the side dishes that are exposed in a display cabinet. Another place is the fish market at Labuan Bajo harbour. There you will be able to choose the best fish and they will cook it in a barbecue.

At Labuan Bajo we did an incredible diving day at the north of Komodo with the dive centre called Dragon Dive Komodo. The dive exceeded our expectations, we saw plenty of different colourful reef fishes that were bigger than in any other places we had already been, great coral that covered up most of the reef, sharks, trevallies, barracudas... It was amazing! If you want to know more about it click at Diving Komodo.

Finally, we took a boat trip of 3 days 2 nights around the Komodo National park. We saw amazing islands and beaches, we did a trecking to find the Komodo dragons, and snorkelling to find mantas and turtles. If you want to know more about it click at Boat trip at Komodo.

After 10 days in this enigmatic island, we took our flight back to Bali from Labuan Bajo. To know a little bit more about Flores and the accommodations we stayed at click at Flores the exotic island.
